Venue of iCAT 2010Nova Gorica, Slovenia Nova Gorica is situated in the far west of Slovenia on the Italian border. It lies between Karst, Mediterranian, and Alpine regions. The neighbouring town over the border is Gorizia, which is approximately 5 minutes walk from the centre of Nova Gorica. Passports for travelling between the two cities are no longer required since Slovenia is part of the European Union. Nova Gorica is well-known for its famous casinos, such as Perla. Northwards from Nova Gorica in the Soca Valley with one of Europe’s most beautiful rivers. The River Soca has a stunning turquoise hue and is deeply carved out of the white limestone of the magnificent Julian Alps. Soča is also a great hiking and kayaking area. The town of Bovec in the upper reaches of the Soca Valley offers world class adventure sports. Near Nova Gorica, there is also the famous Brda wine region. The coastal city of Trieste with its mix of Italian, Slavic, and Germanic cultures is 45 minutes away, and Venice is only two hours away by train.
